Obituary

George Edward Filion passed away on April 10, 2011 a few days before his 94th birthday. He was born in Salem, MA on April 23, 1917 to George H. Filion and Elize B. Therien. He was preceded in death by his longtime companion Isabelle G. Szygula.

His studies at Harvard Collage prepared him for teaching and school management. In 1938 he was awarded an AB degree “Magna Cum Laude” followed by an MA degree in 1940. In 1938 George was granted an appointment as Assistant in English at the Ecole Normal d’Instituteurs de Blois, France. Following his teaching experience in private and public schools, George became the Principal of Phillips School in Salem, MA from 1946 to 1962. Along with his teaching he gave to the Community through memberships in the Lions Club, Salem Community Council, North Shore Council of the Boy Scouts, Salem Music Association to name just a few.

Arrangements: A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 12 noon in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem. Arrangements are under the care of Levesque Funeral Home of Salem.
