James Francis, 86, of Groton died on Friday, April 15,2011. James was born on
July 9,1924, in Providence, R. I., the son of Arthur T. and Loretta (Loiselle)
Francis.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving 3 1/2 years aboard an LST as a
Motor Machinist 1/C. He was a participant in several major invasions including North Africa, Sicily, Southern France, Normandy and Okinawa.
James graduated from LaSalle Academy in Providence and received his degree in
business administration from what is now Roger Williams College.
He worked for many years designing and brokering computer business forms for
large companies in New England, New York, and Delaware.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years Margaret (Smith) Francis, his two
daughters, Jane and Mary, and her husband, B.D. LaMar, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister M. Eleanor Francis of Pinehurst, Florida,and
brother, Paul Francis, of Seekonk, MA. He was predeceased by his brother Arthur
T. Francis Jr.
There will be no calling hours.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary Mother of the
Redeemer Church on 69 Groton Long Point Road in Groton. Following Mass, a
celebration of James' life will be held at the Hilton Mystic Hotel.
