SALEM - Retired US Army Major, Robert G. Jackson, 74, of Salem, husband of Gayle A. (McDonald) Jackson, died Monday evening, April 11, 2011 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Burlington, following a short illness.
Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Agnes F. (Vincent) Jackson. He was a resident of Salem for the past 15 years.
Mr Jackson joined the National Guard in the mid 1950's and served until entering the Army in the early 1960's. Following over 20 years of service, he retired in the mid 1970's with the rank of Major. He was a Vietnam era veteran and was the recipient of the Bronze Star.
After his military career, he was employed for many years as an investigator with the Middlesex DA’s office.
Besides his wife, Gayle, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David P. and Robin M. Jackson of Tewksbury, one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Jackson-Chung and her husband Kevin Chung of Collierville, TN, 7 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Donald Jackson and two sisters, Doris Chisholm and Frances Jackson.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family, followed by interment in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
