Obituary

On April 7, 2011 JANICE JEAN FREDERICK (Jan) passed away at Gilchrist Hospice after courageously battling lung cancer for 3 ½ years. Jan was born on September 30, 1941 and spent her formative years on Dudley Avenue. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1960 where she was a member of the Varsity Basketball Team. Shortly after her graduation, she became employed as a secretary at the Maryland State Police Headquarters, and later joined the administration of Governor Marvin Mandel in School Construction. After leaving the State and attending Essex Community College, Jan received a Real Estate Sales license in 1975 and continuously practiced her profession until shortly before her death. She was one of the leading sales associates at Grempler Realty, Inc., O’Connor, Piper & Flynn and Coldwell Banker and was a member of many professional associations. Jan was very charitable and was a volunteer at Villa Maria, and a mentor at inner city schools. She was also a skydiver and accomplished swimmer and snorkeler, enjoying all water activities. She was survived by her beloved son James Frederick; loving sister, Joan Knopp; brother James P. Sank; dear cousins, Patricia Barget, Diane Henkel and Richard Iager; nephews and nieces; and her longtime loving companion, Edward C. Covahey, Jr.
