Marie E. (Lessa) Alves, 50, of Dartmouth died April 9, 2011 at Southeastern Massachusetts Health and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of Eugenia (Lopes) Lessa of New Bedford and the late Joao Lessa, she lived in New Bedford and Dartmouth most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
Marie was employed by the Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse District for the last 20 years.
She enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Survivors include her mother; 2 sons, John Alves, Jr. and Aaron Alves, both of Dartmouth; a sister, Mariana Barros of New Bedford; a niece, Courtney Rego of Assonet; her companion, Steve Vincent of Dartmouth; and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday, April 13th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday, April 12th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Dana-Faber Cancer Institute, P.O.
