Nowak, Karl Garvin, 92, of Wayland, MA passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Marion (Garvin) Nowak, his wife Anna (Boschetti) Nowak and his sister Julie (Nowak) Bain.
Survived by wife Aimee (Perras) Freeman Nowak and his children Cynthia Nowak, Brian and his wife Ruthie Nowak, Stephanie Nowak and her husband Dennis Ruud, and step-children Michelle Freeman and her husband Philip Scholomiti, Robert Freeman and his wife Rosemary and Suzanne Freeman and nine grandchildren.
Karl graduated from Wakefield High, began work as a machine designer, and then joined the Army. He is a veteran of WWII with the U.S. Army, spent most of his service time in France and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he obtained a degree in mechanical engineering. As senior vice president of Fenwal Inc., Karl devoted 31 years to his work, while enjoying raising a family with Ann. He loved boating, golfing, travel, photography and creating home movies. He was a longtime volunteer at Lahey Clinic and instrumental in the environmental actions of NED/Dow Neighbors. After Ann’s passing he shared his post retirement life with his beloved wife Aimee. For over twenty years the pair were inseparable and delighted in their life of travel, Boston Symphony, their wide circle of friends and family. It is widely recognized by friends, family, co-workers and even mere acquaintances that Karl was the utmost gentleman, loved a bow tie and had a gracious way of conveying a sincere concern for all. He will be deeply missed by the many whose lives he touched.
A memorial celebration will be held in May for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Karl’s memory may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
