Obituary

Dighton-Joseph E. “Jimmy” Arruda age 93 years, passed away on Friday April 8th at his daughter’s house with his loved one’s present. He was the beloved husband of he late Anna T. (Tavares) Arruda. He was the loved father of Jo-Ann Pelletier of Dighton, MA and James Arruda and his wife Patricia of Rockland, MA. Jimmy was the brother of Edna Mae Cunha of Fairhaven and Mildred Rego of Miramar, FL. His sister-in-law Gloria Tavares of Fairhaven. He also leaves 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandsons and several nieces, and nephews

Mr. Arruda was the son the late Manuel and Virginia “Jenny” (Marshall) Arruda. He was born in New Bedford, and lived here until 1980 and then they lived in Somerset MA and Clearwater, FL. Jimmy was a Firefighter with the City of New Bedford at Station # 6. Mr. Arruda was a U.S. Army Veteran of the World War II where he was a P.O.W. and a receiptant of the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the New Bedford Firefighter’s Association Local #841 and Disabled American War Veterans.

Mr. Arruda’s funeral will be Monday at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow with full military honors at St. John Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Sunday evening from 5-8 P.M.
