Obituary

Joseph N. Wood, 94, of Lakeside Drive, a staff manager for the former New England Telephone before retiring in 1982, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of Marcella H. (Czubak) Wood. They had been married for 63 years.

Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Charles R. and Lena (Grenier) Wood. He had lived in Johnston since 1956. He was a WWII Army Veteran.

He was a former Director of the Northern RI Cooperative Extension and the RI 4H Club foundation, a member of the Telephone Pioneers, VFW Post 2812, Kelly-Gazzaro, American Legion, Post #92, the RI and Johnston Historical Societies, the Audubon Society of RI, the University of RI Alumni Assoc., and a former Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 3, Greenville.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons Peter N. Wood of Chepachet, Christopher J. Wood of Pepperell, MA, two daughters Marcellena M. Wood of North Andover, MA, Charlotte M. Wood-Harrington of Chicago, IL, six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Ruth F. Maher

Mass of Christian Burial Monday at 9:30am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial with military honors will be in RI Veteran’s Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 4-7pm the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Philip School, 618 Putnam Pike, Greenville, RI 02828.
