Obituary

Newton, MA - Elizabeth L. (Betty) Wicks of Waban and Westwood, MA passed away on April 6, 2011 in Worcester, MA after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Melvin H. Leonard and Francis T. Cate and predeceased by her devoted husband, David O. Wicks. She is survived by her three children, David O. Wicks, Jr. of New York, NY; Elizabeth T. Wicks of Boylston, MA; and John P. Wicks of Ashland, MA; three granddaughters Perrin and Sara of Brooklyn, NY and Dana of Framingham, MA; and two great-granddaughters. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Carl who resides in Natick, MA, and her daughters-in-law, Joan G. Wicks and Sarah D. Bliss. Her sister Helen Comstock is deceased.

Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and community volunteer as well as an avid tennis player. She was President of the Brimmer and May School Alumnae Association in Chestnut Hill, MA, and was one of three generations of her family to graduate from The Brimmer and May School. She was active in Newton, MA especially the Newton Historical Society and the Union Church in Waban. Betty loved birding in the fields of Massachusetts and her beloved Maine coast, especially Petit Manan.

A memorial service will be announced in the future and the family will have a private service in Petit Manan, Maine. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Scholarship Fund at The Brimmer and May School or the Alzheimer's Disease Research Association, Clarksburg, MD.
