Obituary

Nina Yeatts Keatts of 240 Keatts Lane, Danville, Virginia 24541, went to be with her Lord Monday, April 4, 2011, after a long battle with Parkinson’s.

Nina was born January 4, 1929 in the Dry Fork Community of Pittsylvania County to the late Addie and Samuel Yeatts. She was married to F. A. Keatts 63 years ago on the 26th of June. Mrs. Keatts worked in the No. 2 office for Dan River as a bookkeeper.
Nina’s heart was for her husband and her children. She was known for her warm hugs and table open for all. Her life was characterized by her undying love for her home and family. She was a greatly adored wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Nina supported her husband, F. A. Keatts, both on the successful dairy farm they built together, and in his political career, where he served on the county Board Of Supervisors for 32 years. In the years that she fought Parkinson’s, F. A. was unsurpassed in his dedication and care for her.

In her younger years, she was a member of Dry Fork Holiness Church, and later was a member of the Church Of Truth on Franklin Turnpike. She also volunteered with the 4H Club.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers Kathy Keatts and Shirley Oakes for not only caring for Nina in her illness, but loving her too.

Survivors include her husband, F.A. Keatts of the home, 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. The eldest daughter, Pam Gordon and her husband Paul of Dothan, AL, blessed Nina with 3 grandchildren, Kimberly Lowery and her husband John Lowery of Newnan, GA, Darren Gordon of Atlanta, GA, and Holly Cothern and her husband Bobby Cothern of Dothan, AL. Camron and Christian Lowery are Nina’s two great-grandchildren from Kimberly and her husband John. Nina’s second daughter, Sherry Scruggs and her husband Kenneth of Brosville, VA, honored Nina with 2 grandchildren, Brien Scruggs and his wife Starlett Tuggle Scruggs of Brosville, and Andrew Scruggs, also of Brosville. Nina and F.A.’s last child, Barry Keatts and his wife Susie, along with the youngest grandchild, Hunter, reside in Bradenton, Florida. Nina is also survived by one sister, Erie Mitchell, and three brothers, Joe, Guy, and Ira Yeatts, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three sisters, Doris Wells, Edna Todd, and Thelma Yeatts, and by four brothers, Carl Yeatts, Vernon Yeatts, Norwood Yeatts, and Charlie Yeatts.
