Obituary

HAMPSTEAD, NH: Earl H. “Hux” White, Jr., 79, died Monday, April 4, 2011 in Parkland Medical Center in Derry, New Hampshire following a short illness. He was the husband of Lesley A. (Durgin) White with whom he shared fifty-five years of marriage.
Born in Haverhill on January 27, 1932, he was the son of the late Earl H. and Dorothy (Bailey) White. A lifelong resident of Hampstead, he was a graduate of Hampstead High School, where he was President of the class of 1950. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served our country in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1955. Earl worked as an electrician for many years until his retirement at the age of sixty-two.
Upon his retirement he decided to pursue his love for the outdoors, in particular his interest in farming. He owned and operated the Crooked Beech Farm in Hampstead for many years. The farm was known for the organic vegetables and maple syrup that it produced. Earl also enjoyed participating in many of the local farmers' markets. For many years Earl volunteered his time as a Little League coach and was involved in Cub Scouts in Hampstead. He was also an avid New England sports fan.
Earl was a member of the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) and past member of the American Legion. Above all his interests, the time he spent with his family was most important to him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife Lesley, he is survived by, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jill and Gary Lavey of Barrington, RI, Tracy and Gordon Graham of Derry, NH and Heather White of Hampstead, NH; a son, Huxley C. “Chris” White, of Hampstead, NH; nine grandchildren, Shannan, Alyssa, Owen, Alexander, Victoria, Declan, Griffin, Camden and Mikhail; one great-granddaughter, Brynn; a sister and brother-in-law, Joan D. and Robert Cemate of Westwood, MA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert B. and Kent R. White.
His funeral services will be held on Thursday in the Hampstead Congregational Church, 61 Main St., Hampstead, NH at 11:00 a.m. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill from 4 – 7:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Parkinson Assoc., 720 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02118-2371. Interment will be held on Friday in the Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead at 11:30 a.m.
