Obituary

Sim Daniel Walker, 90, of Tifton died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Tift Health Care, surrounded by Johnny and Connie Soles, Tracey Soles, Evonne Connell, Helen Fountain and Tim Walker. Graveside funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lenox. Rev. Jack Connell will officiate. Roger Claunch, Tracey Soles, Johnny Soles, Tim Walker, Leo Walker and Julian Walker will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The family will be at the residence of Jason and Evonne Connell, 1601 U. S. Highway 82 East in Tifton.

Mr. Walker was born on June 13, 1920 in Cook County and was the son of Jodie William Walker and Luannie Hancock Walker, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. He was a retired carpenter and farmer and of the Holiness faith. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having been part of the Normandy invasion and was a prisoner of war for eleven months. During his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with one bronze service star, the World War II Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He also received the Bronze Star Medal, retroactively, based upon his exemplary conduct as a combat infantryman.

Mr. Walker is survived by one sister-in-law, Margie D. Walker of Tifton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
