Obituary

George H. Theriault, 87 past away peacefully on Friday April 1, 2011 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House while surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of the late Doris (Dubord) Theriault.

Born on February 21st, 1924 in Salem Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Omer Theriault and Maria (Labrie) Theriault. He was raised and educated in Salem. George married Doris in 1943 and was drafted into the US Army shortly after. He served his country in World War II for two years and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem, and worked in the liquor industry in many capacities. He was a general manager at American Seltzer in Beverly, Mass, and a sales manager at NP Beverage in Lawrence, Mass. and Whitehall Liquors in Westwood, Mass.

George was an avid skier who loved spending time with his family in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He also spent his whole life summering on Cobbetts Pond in Windham, New Hampshire, where the family enjoyed times spent together. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

George was a long-term member of Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead, Mass where he spent countless hours among friends golfing and playing Gin Rummy, building a strong camaraderie among his fellow club members. He also devoted a lot of his time as a scorer for local tournaments and spent many years as a Chairperson for the Commodore Open Tournament which raised money for the Mass. Children’s’ Special Needs Organization.

He is survived by his daughter Joan E. Anderson of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, his daughter Collette I. Theriault and her partner Lin Hipp of Lindstrom, Minnesota, and his son Steven G. Theriault and his wife Lori (Coppola) Theriault of Windham, New Hampshire, his grandchildren Loren (Anderson) Weston, Jessica Theriault, and Cristy Theriault and great grandchildren Cale Weston and Peyton Weston. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Omer C. ‘Terry’ Theriault and Thelma Taylor.

Arrangements: Visiting Hours will be on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem, MA.
