Obituary

Lois Scearce Watlington 90, of Danville, died Friday, April 1, 2011 at
Roman Eagle Memorial Home. Born in Pittsylvania County on March 23, 1921, she was the
daughter of the late Floyd Scearce and Nannie Shumate Scearce. She was married to
Elmer J. Watlington who predeceased her. She had worked for Dan River, Inc., retiring after
45 years of service. She was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church.

Mrs. Watlington is survived by one daughter, Gail W. Oakes, of Danville; one grandson, Gene Oakes, Jr. and
his wife, Caroline, of Danville, and one Great-Granddaughter, Abigayl Oakes. In addition to her husband and
parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Paul Scearce, Earl Scearce and Floyd Scearce, Jr., and
three sisters, Lela Ashby, Geneva Owen and Nancy Collins.

Graveside services for Mrs. Watlington will be held Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Danville Memorial
Gardens with the Rev. Barry Crumpton officiating. The family will receive friends at Barker Funeral Home
Chapel on Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
