Julian E. T. Youngblood, 90, of New Bedford died Sunday January 18, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Amelia A. (Veiga) Youngblood and the late Bessie (Blake) Youngblood.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Julian B. and Bertha M. (Jackson) Youngblood, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was a member of the International Church of the Nazarene, where he served as a trustee for many years.
Mr. Youngblood was formerly employed as a chef at Roselawn Farms in Fairhaven.
He was a member of the New Bedford Historical Society. He was a former board member for Buttonwood Park, He was a well known historian with regards to the history of New Bedford. He was a special guide during Church senior citizen outings. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and participated in the Battle of Central Europe. He was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
Survivors include his wife; 3 sons, Julian Youngblood II of Fairhaven, James Youngblood of Freetown, and Barry Youngblood of Acushnet; 2 daughters, Winifred Pina and Wendy Depina, both of New Bedford; 2 brothers, William H. Youngblood III and his wife Ann, and Quentin W. Youngblood and his wife Mae, all of New Bedford; 3 stepchildren, Edward E. "Buster" Costa and Doreen Sylvia, both of New Bedford, and Brenda Summers of Falmouth; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Hamer F. Youngblood, Tracy F. Youngblood, Mary B. Youngblood, and Yvonne L. Craigwell.
His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday January 22, 2004 at 10 AM in the International Church of the Nazarene, 284 Pleasant St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday January 21, 2004 from 5-8 PM.
