James R. “Jim” Kirkland, Sr., age 79, a native of Nicholls, GA passed away at Satilla Regional Medical Center on Thursday, March 31, 2011 following an extended illness. Mr. Kirkland was a farmer in the Nicholls area. Mr. Kirkland was preceded in death by wife: Mary Steptoe Kirkland. He was born on July 8, 1931 to the late Elias and Margaret Youngblood Kirkland. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home with interment following in the Douglas City Cemetery. Survivors include: sons: James R. (Gail) “Jimmy” Kirkland, Jr., Nicholls, GA, Timothy (Teresa) Kirkland, Guyton, GA; 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m to 2:00 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home on Saturday, April 2, 2011. Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that memorials be made to Baptist Village in lieu of flowers.
