Obituary

McNiff, John J. Ret. Regional Director of Veterans Administration - Boston, of Quincy, January 16, 2004.

The beloved husband of 60 years to the late Alice M. (Norton) McNiff. Loving Father of Mary-Ann Giese and her husband Roger of Quincy. Brother of Mary Reavey of Milton, Claire Yarbrough of Waco, TX and the late Boston Fire Chief Paul McNiff and Gertrude Collins. Devoted Grandfather of Matthew, Michael and Mark Giese. Great Grandfather of Connor and Hannah Giese and the late Meghan Giese. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John was an Usher at Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy for many years. He was very active in the Parish community. A former member of the Knights of Columbus in North Quincy. A proud veteran of United States Army serving during W.W.II. John received a silver star for gallantry in action, two purple hearts for injuries received during action and a bronze star. After his tour of duty he became very active in veterans organizations, such as D.A.V. and V.F. W. posts. He was often refered to as "Mr. Veteran" . John began working for the Veterans Administraion in 1946 , in a low entry position in the mail room, through his hard work and dedication he advanced all the way to the rank of Regional Director of the Veterans Adminstration in Boston. John dedicated his work life to his brother veterans. He was an avid Red Sox fan and a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed crossword puzzels in his spare time. His family mostly remembers him as a dedicated husband and father. John was also a member of the Federal Executive Institute - a nationwide organization for employees who entered the working field as entry level postions and rose to achieve top postions.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock St. , WOLLASTON Tuesday at 10 AM. Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, N. Quincy at 11 AM.

Visiting hours Monday 2-4 and 7- 9 PM.

Burial in Milton Cemetery, Milton.
