Sophie P. Aucoin, 91, passed away at the Epoch Nursing Care Center in Melrose on March 23rd, 2011. She was born in Freshwater, Newfoundland, Canada on February 26th, 1920 to her parents Wilfred and Alice (Noel) Hudson. Sophie was raised and educated in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Upon her arrival to the United States, she settled in Wakefield before settling with her family in Malden. She has been a resident of Malden for most of her life. For many years, Sophie worked at the Kresge Department Store in Malden as well as the J.M. Fields Department Store. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed the company of family and friends. She is survived by her son, retired Malden Chief of Police Richard Aucoin of Brookline, New Hampshire; by her granddaughters; Laurie DiFilippo and her husband John of Lynn and Deidre Tardiff and her husband Jeoff of Swampscott; and by her great grandchildren Caitlin DiFilippo, John DiFilippo Jr., Sylvie Tardiff and Luc Tardiff. Along with her parents, Sophie was predeceased by her husband Melvin Aucoin and by her siblings Stanley, Evelyn and Melba. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Monday March 28th at 10 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday March 27th from 1-5 PM.
