Frances (Crossman) Ohler, 84, died peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2011, surrounded by family, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. She was born on December 12, 1926 in Windsor, Vt. Daughter of the late Lionel Crossman and Irene (Hobart) Crossman.
She loved family gatherings and a good game of cribbage. She fondly enjoyed her time with friends at and was an active member of both the Groton and Ledyard Senior Centers. She immensely enjoyed singing in both senior choirs. She participated in the Elder program with the Ledyard Center school for several years helping the 3rd grade Shining Stars. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Frances married Herbert Ohler on April 7, 1962 at Ft Devens, Ayer Mass. They made their home in the U.S. Army, stationed multiply times at Fort Devens, Germany and Italy.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Joyce and David Menard of Ledyard and Cindy and Jim Atkinson of Waterford; two very special grandsons Christopher and Brandon Doan. She is also survived by two brothers Lionel Crossman of New Jersey and Harry Crossman of Wisconsin.
She is predeceased by her father and mother; husband Herbert whom died May 10th 1971 while on active duty in the Republic of South Vietnam, and brother Earl Crossman.
Memorial services will be held at 1pm on Saturday April 2nd at Ledyard Congregational Church, 722 Colonel Ledyard Highway; Ledyard CT. Internment will be a private ceremony at Fort Devens cemetery at a later date.
