TEWKSBURY - Bernard D. "Barney" Frediani, age 83, a long tome resident of Tewksbury, died Sunday, March 20, at the Lowell General Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Lowell, July 8, 1927, one of nine children of the late David and Susan (Barbieri) Frediani. He was raised in Lowell where he attended St. Peter's Parochial School, and went on to Graduate from Lowell High School.
He enlisted into the U.S. Army at the close of WWII, and served honorably stateside until 1947.
He began his working career with the Farnsworth Company, making adhesives for the shoe industry, and later worked for Avco, which would become Textron. He was an adhesive specialist. His projects included the development of adhesives for the ceramic tile heat shields for N.A.S.A.'s Gemeni, Apollo and Shuttle programs.
Barney was also known for his smooth skills on the dance floor, ballroom dancing with the most talented in New England. He loved long walks and long bicycle treks and often rode from Tewksbury to Hampton Beach and beyond. He was also a voracious reader of hardcover books, never a paperback.
He is survived by one brother, Charles "Bud" and his wife Jean Frediani of Pepperell; and numerous nieces and nephews, including his niece Dorothea Patenaude of Dracut, with whom he had resided for the past decade.
He was brother of the late Susan Fantini, Mary Segini, David, Albert, and Camille Frediani, Theresa Agnatovech, and Josephine Baroni.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, Mar. 24, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial with Army Honors followed in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 will be appreciated.
