Obituary

James W. Acheson, 86, of Westport died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Claire (Moore) Acheson.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Roger and Dorothy (Towle) Acheson, Jim lived in Westport all his life. He served in the U.S Army Japanese Occupation Force. Jim was a dairy farmer in Westport until 1970, and then worked as a carpenter for various contractors in the area. He was a member of the Allen’s Neck Friends Meeting in Dartmouth and volunteered at their annual Clambake. He was also a member of the Westport Fair Committee, and enjoyed working at the Chicken Barbecue for many years. Jim loved spending time outdoors in his garden, and was happiest when he could share his enthusiasm and knowledge of his passion with friends and family.

Along with his wife, Claire, survivors include a daughter: Jane Rebello of Westport; a sister: Elizabeth Acheson of Westport; and 2 granddaughters: Holly Rebello and Leigh-Anne Rebello of Westport.

Arrangements will be private.
