Obituary

TAUNTON – Joseph E. Ferreira, husband of the late Hilda (Rebello) Ferreira, died at the Life Care Center of Raynham on March 20, 2011.
He was 86.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of late Serephin and Mary (Bartel) Ferreira.
Raised and educated in Taunton, Mr. Ferreira later served in the U.S. Army during WW II and participated in the invasion of Normandy.
He was employed by Wheaton College as a painter for over forty-two years, before retiring in 1988.
In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing at Onset Bridge.
A sports fan, Mr. Ferreira especially enjoyed baseball, and was an avid Red Sox supporter.
After he retired, he enjoyed spending afternoons with his wife Hilda at the dog track.
Survivors include two sons, Michael J. Ferreira and his wife Linda, and Richard E. “Rick” Ferreira and his wife Joyce, all of Taunton; two grandchildren, Christopher Ferreira of Taunton, and Lauren Ferreira of Boston; three brothers, Robert Ferreira of Raynham, and Raymond and George Ferreira, both of Taunton; two sisters, Mary Ventura of Dighton, and Evelyn Mastromarino of Taunton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Charles, Louis, James, Seraphin, Edward and Alfred Ferreira.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, on Wednesday, March 23rd at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 22nd from 4 to 7 p.m.
