Obituary

Mrs. Louise Herrington Allen, 88, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 18, 2011 at her home. Mrs. Allen was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John Charles Allen, Sr., parents T.J. and Carrie B. Pollard Herrington; sister, Ola Herrington Case; brother, T.J. (Billy) Herrington, Jr.; brother, Jack Herrington; and sister, June Herrington Smith.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, J. Charles Allen, Jr. and Kay of Evans, Ga., and R.W. (Rick) and Robin Allen of Augusta, Ga., one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Aaron Strickland of Carrollton, GA; eight grandchildren, John Charles Allen III and Lillian, Lori Allen Lowe and Keith, Jennifer Allen Green and Tee, Richard Andrew Allen and Betsy, Molly Allen Hargather and Jamie, Robin Anne Allen, Zachary Clark Strickland and Jessica, and Molly Kate Strickland; eight great-grandchildren, Katie Williams and Kaylee Lowe, Rachel Allen, Hadley, Wyche, Hutton, and Collier Green, and Zeke Strickland. Of her seven siblings, the three remaining are Carol H. Rhodes, Augusta, Ga., Wilbur Herrington, Lithonia, Ga., and Terry Herrington, Gulf Breeze, Fla.
Mrs. Allen, a graduate of Evans High School and the University of Georgia, was a retired school librarian with over twenty years of service in the Columbia County School System. She was a former member of Evans Baptist Church, a current member of Warren Baptist Church, and Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority. She loved to play bridge, square dance, and read. She was an avid sports enthusiast who followed her beloved Dawgs and Braves. But most of all, she was a wonderful mother, homemaker, gardner, and cook.
Mrs. Allen had lived in Evans all of her life before making her home, two years ago, in Carrollton, Ga. with her daughter.
Pallbearers will be John Allen, Zachary Strickland, Tee Green, Jamie Hargarther, Keith Lowe, grandsons, and Michael Holmes.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 Monday, March 21 at Platt’s Funeral Home on Belair Road in Evans, Ga. Funeral services will at 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 22 at Warren Baptist Church, with the internment to follow at Westover Memorial Park.
