William Whitman, Dickson City, died Wednesday in AseraCare Hospice at Mid Valley Hospital, Peckville. His wife is the former Eleanor Ofcharsky.
Born in Olyphant, son of the late Edward and Ann Doherty Whitman, he was a graduate of Olyphant High School. He was a driver with Capital Trailways in Harrisburg, and later, a school bus driver in Wyomissing. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War as a tank commander, earning the rank of sergeant. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Peckville.
Also surviving are a son, William Jr., New York; a daughter, Cindy Whitman, Oregon; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Herbert and John; and a sister, Grace Barber.
Funeral services will be Monday in the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc., 129 Grant St., Olyphant, with Mass at 9 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Burial, St. Michael's Cemetery, Blakely. Friends may call Sunday, 5 to 8 p.m. Visit www.glinskyfuneralhome.com for more information.
