
DONALD F. PITCHER, age 92, of Hingham, died on Tuesday, Jan. 13th at the SouthShore Hospital in Weymouth. Born in Mystic, Connecticut, Mr. Pitcher came to Hingham at the age of 16. He was a 1928 graduate of Hingham High School and a 1933 graduate of Harvard University. During World War II, he served with the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Commander. Following his military service, Mr. Pitcher was a salesman for the West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Company in Boston, retiring in 1976. He was a long time member of the Hingham Congregational Church, the Hingham Rotary Club, the Hingham Yacht Club and the Cohasset Golf Club. Mr. Pitcher loved sailing, tennis and golf. He will be greatly missed by family and friends for his gentlemanly ways and wonderful sense of humor.He leaves his wife of 68 years, Roberta (Hardy) Pitcher. He was the father of Donald F. Pitcher, Jr. and his wife Shirly H. Pitcher of Hingham, and Jane P. Wheeler and her husband Grant W. Wheeler of Christmas Cove, Maine. Grandfather of Donald F. Pitcher, III, Sara H. Pitcher, William C. Ackerman, Robert T. Ackerman and Elisabeth R. Dufault. Great grandfather of Molly J. Ackerman, Caroline R. Ackerman, Willliam C. Ackerman, II and Megan R. Dufault. Also survived by 4 nieces.A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, January 24th at 2 PM at the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main St., Hingham, MA 02043.Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Hingham Congregational Church.The interment is to be private.
