Obituary

WORCESTER-Anne “Nancy” (McDonald) Flynn of Worcester died on March 15, 2011 at St. Francis Nursing Center. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James T. Flynn, and their three children, James T. Flynn, Jr. and his wife Karen King of Holden, Margaret Mary “Meg” Flynn of Milton, and Catherine M. Bolduc and her husband, Christopher of Auburn and six grandchildren. She also leaves a brother, John McDonald of Louisville, KY, and two sisters, Margaret “Peg” Dooley of Canton and Rosalie Killion of Falmouth. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Lakeman and her brother, Henry “Harry” McDonald.

Nancy was born and raised in Newton, attended Sacred Heart parish and public schools, and graduated from Newton High School in 1948. After two years service with the Marist Missionary Sisters, she came to Boston College as secretary in the office of the dean of the graduate school. She met a BC graduate student, James Flynn. They married in 1956 and came to Worcester in 1958. Nancy raised three fine children (Jim, Meg, and Cathy) and assisted her husband with his academic and scholarly work. She joined the staff of the registrar’s office at Holy Cross College in 1970. She later transferred to the music library, where she happily served the Holy Cross community until her retirement in 1993. Nancy was especially happy with her role as Eucharistic minister in the chapel at Holy Cross. She ably assisted her husband’s scholarly work in many libraries (including the Library of Congress) and conferences in US and abroad. She especially enjoyed many visits in Dublin. Throughout her life, Nancy remained a loyal supporter of the Marist Missionary Sisters. She and her best friend and companion, her husband Jim, were grateful that they enjoyed a long and happy life together.

The Flynn family would like to thank everyone at The St. Francis Home for the kind care given to Nancy during her stay there.
