
Pauline Tomlin “Polly” Poovey, 81, of 605 Albert Edmunds Drive, Ringgold, VA went to her Heavenly home to join the two loves of her life, Jesus, and Rev. Ben Poovey, on March 15, 2011.
Polly was born on October 31, 1929 to the late Ollie Tomlin and Rebecca H. Tomlin. Most of her life was spent in Danville, Kentuck, and Ringgold, Virginia. On October 13, 1951, she married Bennie L. Poovey who predeceased her on March 13, 2009. Polly worked in Dan River Mills for 46 years until they closed the mill where she worked. She also devoted her time to helping her husband and working for the church he pastored, Faith Baptist Church Of Ringgold, where she helped as a nursery keeper and later as a Sunday school secretary until her health began to fail. She was a selfless person, always thinking of others and not herself. Many people learned much by her example and her unending love for her family. She touched so many lives.
Survivors include her three children: Teresa Barber and her husband Buddy of Ringgold, Nancy Gray of Ringgold, and Dennis Poovey and his wife Lesia of Mason, Ohio; six grandchildren: Brandi Payne and her husband Danny of Danville, Kelly and Vicki Gray of Ringgold, Amber Jackson and her husband Chad, April and Autumn Poovey, all of Mason, Ohio. She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Jeremy Payne of Danville, Grace, Elijah, Levi, and Myla Roe Jackson of Mason, Ohio. Polly is also survived by four sisters: Lorene Hawkins and her husband Bill of Hartford, Kentucky, Jeroline Tomlin and Gracie Reed of Danville, Jackie Tomlin of California. She was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Jessie, and Claude Tomlin, and one grandson, Jamie Lee McDaniel. She also has three other grandchildren, two baby girls, and another baby boy whom she finally got to see for the first time.
Funeral services officiated by Dr. Van Moore, Rev. Paul Sisk, and Rev. Noah Frye will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, March 17, 2011, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times they will be at the residence.
