Obituary

Holden - John T. Jacobson Sr. of Holden, husband of Patricia Field Orsi-Jacobson, died peacefully on March 15, 2011. He was born Aug. 24, 1921 to Nicholas and Helen (Larson) Jacobson of Worcester, MA. He attended Commerce High School and later was a house painter. In summer he was a lifeguard at Bell Pond in Worcester. In 1942 he entered the United States Army and served until 1945 as a military policeman at a prison camp for German War Prisoners in Bristol, England.

He worked 35 years as a steel heat treater at Lindberg Heat Treating, Worcester, Mass. His first wife Alice Hopewell Jacobson died in 1989. John's hobbies were walking, taking day trips by car, doing word puzzles, woodcarving, and listening to music.

Besides his wife he leaves a son, John T. Jacobson Jr. and companion Reva Lovett, granddaughters Jenifer Allen and Jessica Jacobson and three great-grandsons, all in Texas. He also leaves brother-in-law George Hopewell and wife Margie, nephew Mark Hopewell and wife Kim, niece Cathy Gordon and husband Stephen and niece Bonnie Murphy and husband Kevin. He leaves sisters-in-law Shirley Gaboury, Mildred Schiavone and Nancie Jacobson, a nephew Arthur Schiavone and wife Carol and a niece Jean Wetherbee and husband Bruce. On his wife's side he leaves step-daughter Velma O'Connell and husband Francis, step-son Glen Orsi and wife Diane O'Regan and step-son Jay Orsi, step-grandson Andrew O'Connell and fiancée Marguerite Boivard, step-granddaughter Jody Epstein and husband Michael, and friends Doris and Don Epstein and Marie and Charles Boivard. He was pre-deceased by a daughter Hope Ann, two brothers Herbert and Richard and a sister E. Ruth Dupont.

John was a member of the Friends of the Holden Council on Aging, the American Legion, and the Friends of the Gale Free Library in Holden.

He donated his body to UMass Medical School.

A memorial service will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester on March 19, 2011 at 1 o'clock p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the American Red Cross, 2000 Century Dr., Worcester, MA 01604 for the relief of Japanese earthquake victims.
