Obituary

Methuen, MA- Humphrey V. “Hank” Tremblay, 90, died Sunday, March 13th at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen surrounded by his loving family.

Born on February 1, 1921, Hank was the son of Herman A. and Nora (O’Leary) Tremblay. Educated in Lawrence, he graduated from Lawrence High School Class of 1939. During World War II, Hank served his country in the US Army until being honorably discharged and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and was awarded the Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters.

For many years, Hank worked as a correctional officer at Walpole State Prison. A huge Ted Williams fan, Humphrey was part of championship teams in the late 30’s in at Lawrence High School. After High School, he went on to play regional baseball for the Pacific Mills, then to coach his son Bill in several little & Babe Ruth league teams in Lawrence. One of his greatest thrills in life was to see the Red Sox win their first World Series in 86 years. He was a member of Methuen Council # 4027 K of C.

The widower of the late Mary Lorraine (Greene) Tremblay, who died in 2000, Hank is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Patricia Hollander of Methuen, Nancy Tremblay and her husband Larry Gold of Brookline, and William Tremblay and his wife Susanne of York, ME, 5 grandchildren, Octavia Hollander LaGrasse, Ivan Hollander, Briana Richards and Nicole and Caitlyn Tremblay, sister, Rose C. Kay and her longtime companion Sal Canto of Northampton, NH, Joan Cote and her husband Wilfred of New Jersey and Robert E. Tremblay of Methuen, his dear friends, June Massoud, Annmarie and Michael Sheehy, Sheila and Joseph Mathues, and Donna Laudani as well as several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, March 16th, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence St., Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday morning, March 17th at 9 a.m. at OLGC/ St. Augustine’s Chapel in Lawrence, with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Hank’s name to the Disabled American Veterans Association at DAV Memorial Program, P.O.
