WORCESTER-Sonia N. (Repekta) Parent, 85, of Worcester, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, March 8th. She leaves her devoted and beloved husband of 63 years, Victor J. Parent; their twin children, Jay V. Parent and his wife Saesha of Ipswich and Sandy J. Hennessy of Rindge, NH; a sister, Luba Trachimowicz of Worcester; her closest and dearest friend of 72 years, Martha McManus; four grandchildren; and two nephews.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Russian immigrants Sylvester and Natalie (Schmoshok) Repekta and graduated from the former High School of Commerce and Salter Secretarial School. Mrs. Parent worked at the former American Steel & Wire, Johnson Steel & Wire, and Wyman Gordon Company, retiring as a statistician in 1956. She was a member of Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Parish, the Auburn Senior Center, the Club Girls, the Millbury Women’s Club and the former Calvary Guild of Shrewsbury. Sonia enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and traveling. In 1992, she was selected as “Mother of the Year” by the WUMB Boston radio show “As Young as You Feel.”
The funeral is Tuesday, March 15th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 600 Cambridge Street. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. Contributions in Sonia’s memory may be made to Wachusett Extended Care Center, 56 Boyden Road, Holden, MA 01520. A visiting hour is from 8:30 until 9:30 A.M. Tuesday in the funeral home.
