Obituary

SALEM - Edmund J. Polchlopek, 86, of Salem, husband of the late Celia (Falta) Polchlopek, died Monday evening, March 7, 2011 in Salem Hospital.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Joseph and Karolina (Wegrzyniak) Polchlopek.

An Army veteran of WWII, he served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater as a medical technician with the Medical Detachment, 184th General Hospital and attained the rank of Technician 5th Class.

Prior to his retirement in 1990, Edmund was employed by Rudolph Electrical in Chelsea for 35 years.

He was an active parishioner of the St. John The Baptist Church, Salem, where he served on the Parish Council, was a chairman of the annual parish picnic for several years, was a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, worked on many committees and was a member of the St. John The Baptist Booster Club. He was also a member and officer of the Polish Falcons, Nest 188, Salem and served on the Salem High School Class of 1941 Reunion Committee.

Mr. Polchlopek is survived by a nephew, Benjamin E. and his wife Bethmarie Sylvanowicz of Georgetown and their children, David E. Sylvanowicz, Aaron S. Sylvanowicz, Jason C. Sylvanowicz and their families and was the beloved uncle of many members of the extended Falta family. He was predeceased by a sister, Casimere Sylvanowicz.

His funeral service will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at the St. John The Baptist Church, Salem. Visiting hours are Friday from 4 to 8 pm. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
