Catherine Hunt Ward, age 71, died Wednesday, March 9, 2001 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS surrounded by her family. Born in 1939 in Water Valley, she was a daughter of James Watson and Dorothy Dean Ramsey Hunt. Cathy graduated from the University of MS with a BAE in education and retired from the Water Valley Schools after 30 years of teaching. She was a lifetime member of the VFW and received a 30 year pin, a member of the Garden Club of Water Valley, a Sunday School teacher at Woodland hills Baptist Church, was active in the Benevolence and Missions Ministry at Woodland Hills, and was involved in the Domestic Violence Project. Cathy had a contagious laugh and a vibrant personality, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family will be receiving friends from 5 until 7 PM Friday, March 11, 2011 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 11 AM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks. Burial will follow in Oak HIll Cemetery with Sam Goodwin, Al Reed, Mark Clements, Rick McCuan, Mark Anthony, and Eric Wiginton serving as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Nell Cox, Sandy Beyer, Vicki Beyer, Betty Baker Thomas, Jane Franklin, and members of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Cathy is survived by three daughters, Julie Catherine Wiginton of Water Valley, MS, Joan Wiginton Cook and her husband, J.D., of Florence, AL, and Janet Lynn Wiginton of Sheffield, AL; two sons, John Franklin Wiginton and his wife, Lisa, of Water Valley, MS, and Gardner Clyde Wiginton of Lacey’s Spring, AL; one sister, Carolyn Griffing of Olive Branch, MS; seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by three sons, Wilton Scott Carnet, Richard Joseph Trebowski, and Gary Ray Wiginton; and two brothers, James Ramsey Hunt and Richard Dean Hunt.
