Obituary

Frederick V.Whiteside, Jr., 93, formerly of Burrillville, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 in the arms of his beloved wife of 69 years, Mildred “Millie” (LaTour) Whiteside. Born in Millville, MA, he was a son of the late Frederick V. Whiteside, Sr. and Elizabeth (Ward) Whiteside.

He was a US Army Veteran of of WWII from 1941-1945, retired from the New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. as the senior active employee in the state of RI after 43 years of service.

Besides his wife he is survived by his four children: Frederick V. Whiteside, III and his wife, Jennifer of Raleigh, NC, Robert J. Whitesideand his wife, Linda of Cumberland, Mary E. (Whiteside) Matthews and her partner, Richard Charland of Glocester, and James E. Whiteside and his partner, James Nawoty of Burrillville, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother, William Whiteside of Vero Beach, FL. He was the brother of the late Edward J. Whiteside and Lucille Holden.

He was a 60 year member of the Knights of Columbus, Lifetime member of the Pioneers, a volunteer network of Bell retirees, and an active participant of St. Eugene’s Church for many years. He was an avid sports fan and loving patriarch of the Whiteside Family.

His funeral will be held Saturday at 8:30 am from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Eugene’s Church, 1247 Putnam Pike, Chepachet. Visitation Friday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred’s memory may be made to West View Health Center, Patients Activity Fund, 239 Legris Avenue, West Warwick, RI 02893.
