WORCESTER - Walter P. Niewiera, Sr, 91, of Goucher Ave., died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at his granddaughter’s home in Barre, after a long illness. His wife of 62 years, Elizabeth L. "Betty" (Price) Niewiera, died May 11, 2002.
He leaves a son, Walter P. Niewiera, Jr. of Worcester; a daughter-in-law, Alice Niewiera of Leicester; 2 sisters, Jane Gervais of Michigan, Rita Niewiera of Worcester; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Carol Ann Schoof of Londonderry, NH, died Nov. 10, 2001, and a son, Joseph J. Niewiera of Leicester, died April 23, 2006. Three brothers, and a sister, Frances Daukcz, also predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Boleslaw and Melania (Lankowski) Niewiera. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School and was an Army Veteran of World War II.
Walter worked as a machine operator at U.S. Steel for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member St. Joan of Arc Church.

A CALLING HOUR will be held from 9 to 10 A.M. on WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9, in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St., followed by A FUNERAL SERVICE at 10 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
