Obituary

Mary Viola (Boyle) Walecka, 93, of New Bedford died Thursday March 3, 2011 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Norris A. Walecka, Sr.; they had been married for 65 years.

She was born in New Bedford on January 14, 1918, the daughter of the late Hugh and Viola Boyle. She attended New Bedford Public Schools.

She is survived by five sons Norris A. Walecka Jr. and his wife Claire of Fairhaven, Joseph Walecka and his wife Christine of New Bedford, David Walecka and his wife Susan of Duxbury, Kenneth Walecka and his wife Debra of Acushnet, and Daniel Walecka and his wife Anne of Acushnet; a daughter Jane Murray and her husband Edward of Fairhaven, a sister, Grace Mikina of New Bedford; 13 grandchildren, Brian, Dr. Kevin, and Brett Walecka, Kristen Sosa, Jennifer Sullivan, Ashley and Sarah Walecka, Travis Walecka, Kyla Harper, Christopher Murray, Elizabeth Crage, and Nicholas and Bethany Walecka; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Hugh David Walecka.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home for the excellent care they provided to their beloved mother.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday morning at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home, 200 Hawthorn St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
