Theodore V. Ercius
Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Ted “Tado” Ercius passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011 at the age of 93 after a short illness. He spent the last 7 years living in Hingham with his daughter and her husband Bruce Kelly.
Ted was born in Donora, PA in 1917 and resided in Cleveland, OH with his wife Elizabeth for many years before moving to Hingham. He was a machinist and after retiring took up picture framing and stained glass work. He loved music and became a prolific artist in his later years and shared many enjoyable days with all his friends and loving staff at Active Day Medical Day Care of Hingham. Besides being Pittsburgh’s most avid Steelers fan he was most proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They will miss their “another one Grandpa” who was always quick to pass out coins to all the kids.
Ted is survived by his wife of 70 years Elizabeth, his daughters Ruth Kelly of Hingham and Linda Ercius of Victorville, CA, grandchildren Eric Swingle of Cinciannati, OH, William Bennett of Monterey, CA, Toby Bennett of Los Angeles, CA, Elizabeth Cashman of Hingham and Joshua Kelly of Dunstable, MA and ten great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street, Hingham starting at 4:00 pm with a celebration of Ted’s life and times starting at 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Theodore “Tado “ Ercius to Father Flanagan’s Boys Town, 13603 Flanagan Boulevard, Boys Towne, NE, 68010.
