Verne G. Tyler, 68

Dateline: Norton, MA

Verne G. Tyler, 68, of Norton passed away in the presence of his loving family on Wednesday March 2, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Lynda D. (Costa) Tyler, to whom he was wed on October 9, 2004.
Born in Natick, MA on August 16, 1942, he was a loving son of the late Lester V. and Kathryn L. (Achilles) Tyler.
Verne grew up in the Roxbury section of Boston. His family later moved to Brookline and Easton, and he graduated from Oliver Ames High School in North Easton with the class of 1962.
In 1963, during the Vietnam War, Verne entered the United States Air Force. He was assigned to the Air Police and on October 1, 1967 was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Tyler was the owner and operator of the former Curtis Mathes in Raynham. He later worked as an armed guard for the Massachusetts Transport before retiring.
A resident of Norton for the past 20 years, Verne was a member of St. of John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Mansfield where he also served as a church sexton.
He was an accomplished painter and an avid bird watcher. Mr. Tyler enjoyed projects around his home and will always be remembered for his kindness to the animals that frequented his yard.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children Shawn V. Tyler of Virginia, Dawn R. Paulo of Norton, Sherry L. Tidwell of Florida, Kenneth D. York of Norton, Keith A. York of New York and Kraig W. York of South Carolina. The dear brother of Laraine R. Champion, John C. Tyler and Robert E. Tyler all of Norton, Verne is also survived by his cherished 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday March 12th at 10:00 A.M. in St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 47 High St., Mansfield. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours are omitted and those wishing may remember Verne with a donation made in his memory to St. John the Evangelist Church, 47 High St., Mansfield, MA 02048.
