Obituary

Constance A. McGrath, 82, of Mattapoisett, formerly of Roslindale, died Saturday January 10, 2004 at home.

Born in Port Wade, Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late Roy S. and Stella (Ryder) McGrath, she lived in Roslindale for most of her life before recently moving to Mattapoisett.

Miss McGrath was a psychiatric social worker who maintained a private practice, Mount Auburn Psychiatric Services Clinical Social Work Associates, until her retirement. During her long and distinguished career, she had worked as a case worker at New Haven Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. She had been a caseworker in the Child Psychiatry Unit at Boston University School of Medicine, where she participated in the development of a teaching program for senior medical students. She then served as Director of Social Services at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York and as a Social Work Department Supervisor at McLean Hospital in Belmont, prior to establishing her own practice.

She was a member of the Massachusetts Association of Clinical Social Workers, the Massachusetts Academy of Psychiatric Social Work, and the National Association of Social Work. She received her Bachelor's of Science Degree from Simmons College in 1944 and her Master's in Science Degree from Simmons College School of Social Work in 1946.

She was an avid quilter and reader.

Survivors include her uncle, Murray A. Ryder of New Hampshire; and several cousins.

Her Memorial Service will be held in Pine Island Cemetery, Mattapoisett at a later date. Visiting hours are omitted.
