New Bedford – Helen F. “Nan” (McCoy) Alvarez, 92, of Acushnet died at New Bedford Health Care Center on January 10, 2004. She was the widow of Joseph Alvarez.
She was born in Boston, daughter of the late Scott A. and Annie T. (Stacey) McCoy, and resided in Acushnet since 1991. She was a member of the Long Plain Baptist Church, Acushnet. She was employed by the Boston Herald News until her retirement in 1977.
Survivors include her son: Robert D. Alvarez of Lynn, MA; 5 grandchildren: Stephen P. Alvarez of Berkley, Michael J. Alvarez of New Bedford, Kelley E. Spellman of Acushnet, Mary E. DiMarco of Maine and Robert V. Alvarez of Boston; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
She was grandmother of the late Kimberly H. Alvarez.

Funeral service Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the KIRBY FUNERAL HOME, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford.

Interment in Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet.
