Alice M. Tolentino, 79, of Fairhaven died peacefully on Saturday January 10, 2004 at Our Lady's Haven surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Fairhaven, the daughter of the late Francisco Nicolau and Maria doCarmo Lopes Araujo Tolentino, she was raised on the family farm in Fairhaven and lived in Fairhaven for most of her life.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of All Nations, where she also played the piano.
Ms. Tolentino was formerly employed as a licensed practical nurse at St. Luke's Hospital and Frances P. Memorial Hospital until her retirement.
She was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School and Diman Vocational School of Nursing. She was a former member of the Stetsonnaires, the Union Baptist Church Choir, and the Our Lady of the Assumption Senior Citizens.
Survivors include 2 sons, Jesse B. Walker of Fairhaven and LaShawn Tolentino of New Bedford; 5 daughters, Carmen M. Gamboa, Robin L. Stringer, and her husband James, and Tracy A. Fontes, all of New Bedford, LaKachia Tolentino and KaTrina Tolentino, both of Rhode Island; her sister, Corinne A. Monteiro of Dartmouth; her daughter-in-law, Ethel Woodard of Boston; her sister-in-law, Ida Tolentino of New Bedford; her cousin, who was like her brother, Joseph Almeida of New Bedford; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was the mother of the late Grant A. Woodard, great-grandmother of the late Tatiana L.A. Pina, and sister of the late Mary L. Britto, Arthur F. Tolentino, Sr., and Louise M. Lovette.
Her Homegoing Service will be held in the United House of Prayer for All People, 419 Kempton St., New Bedford, Wednesday January 14, 2004 at 10 AM. Viewing at the Church Wednesday morning 9-10 AM prior to the service. Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Tuesday January 13, 2004 from 5-9 PM. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
