Obituary

WASHINGTON…Evangeline L. Thomas, 91, formerly of Washington, IL passed away at 5:46 a.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Kewanee Care Home in Kewanee, IL.

Born September 19, 1919 in Matherville, IL to Frederic and Mary Buyan Grubisich, she married Robert L. Thomas on November 15, 1941 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington, IL. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1991. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two infant sisters and her brother, Fred.

Surviving Evangeline (Vangie) are one brother, Joseph (Sybil) Grubisich of Davenport, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Virginia Grubisich of Peoria; three nephews, Gerald (Marilyn)Grubisich of Canton, IL, Joe Jr. (Kathy)Grubisich of Blue Grass, IA., Larry (Faye)Grubisich of Johnson, IA., two nieces, MaryAnne (Larry) Mowbray of Kewanee and Patricia (Bret) Drone of Coal Valley, IL and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She worked as a cosmetologist at the former Block & Kuhl and Carson, Piere Scott department stores in downtown Peoria for many years.

Vangie was a delight to know and love, always exhibiting a perfect appearance and gracious demeanor. She enjoyed her home in Washington and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at11 a.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home with Pastor John Bates officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be half hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Vangie’s family wish to express their deep appreciation for the care, compassion and love given by the staff at Kewanee Care Home during the past 5 years. Also to the staff of OSF Hospice and Dr. Remi Satkauskas.

Memorials may be directed to her church or the Kewanee Care Home Activity Department.
