New Bedford-Rita O’Brien age 91 died Saturday February 26th at home with her loving sons with her. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph F. O’Brien who passed September 29th 2007. They had been married for 59 years. She was the beloved mother of Thomas F. O’Brien and Dennis Joseph O’Brien both of New Bedford. Rita is also survived by sisters.
Mrs. O’Brien was the daughter of the late Joseph and Florina (Meggison) Fortin. She was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all her life. She was a Visiting Registered Nurse who worked at St. Luke’s Hospital until her retirement. She was an avid swimmer.
Mrs. O’Brien’s request was for direct burial with a Mass of Memorial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. James Church. Her Mass will be at 10 A.M. on March 19th 2011. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
