John Melvin Folsom, 92, of Tifton died Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Tift Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. David Folsom will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Folsom was born on August 31, 1918 in Tift County and was the son of Henry Folsom and Annie Young Folsom, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lula Folsom, who died in 1992; his second wife, Emogene Folsom, who died in 2009; and three sisters. He was retired and a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Kelltown.
Mr. Folsom is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Nelda Folsom of Doerun and David and Terry Folsom of Crawfordville; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Tony Hester of Cobb; one step-daughter, Nelda Jean Jones of Tifton; three sisters, Eleanor Harvey of Tifton, Hazel Folsom of Tifton and Ann Womack of Chula; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one step-granddaughter.
