Irene A. (Rogers) Figueiredo, 94, of Westport, passed away February 16, 2011 after a brief illness. She was the widow of Joseph B. Figueiredo and the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Cordeiro) Rogers.
Mrs. Figueiredo worked in the banking business for over 45 years. She began her career as a switchboard operator and retired as the secretary to the president of Shawmut Bank of New Bedford. She enjoyed her work and the people she met and worked with. She also co-founded Figueiredo’s Greenhouses with her husband in 1946 in New Bedford. The business re-located to Westport in 1964 where the family business still continues. Mrs. Figueiredo was a Communicant of St. George Church, Westport. She loved and enjoyed her family, friends, sewing, knitting, vacations, ice skating and quietly helping those in need.
Irene was the beloved mother of Theresa-Marie F. Pimental and her husband Terrance A. The loving Nana to her grandsons and their wives: Craig and Lynne, Corey and Susan, Tobey and Jessica and Tyler Pimental. And her great-grandchildren: Cassandra, Seth, Riley, Hunter, Bryar and Gage. She is also survived by 3 sisters: Eva Oliveira, Alice Harrop and Lydia Biglarderi and her sister-in-law: Olive Figueiredo. And she leaves many nieces, nephews and special godchildren.
She was sister of the late Manuel, David and Leslie Rogers and Mary Magan.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at St. George Church, Westport at 9:30 A.M.
Calling hours Monday 5 – 8 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.
Interment will be private.
