John J. O’Connell, a native and resident of Medford for most of his life, of Saugus, died on Feb. 23, 2011, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Inez M. (Corvo) O’Connell for more than 50 years. Devoted father of John J. O’Connell, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Palm City, Florida, Kevin F. O’Connell, PHD and his wife, Laurie of Silver Spring, Maryland, Maura L. Carroll and her husband, Attorney Daniel M. of North Reading, David G. O’Connell of Los Angeles, California and Erin M. O’Connell and her partner Colleen Coyne of Amesbury. Grandfather of Matthew M. and Melissa M. O’Connell, of FL, Haley and Morgan O’Connell of MD, Ashley, Lindsey and Krista Carroll of N. Reading and Jack O’Connell-Coyne of Amesbury. Brother of Attorney Philip A. O’Connell of Stoneham, Marie T. Brady of W. Dennis, Ann Clare Kenneally and Gertrude F. Boudreau, both of Medford and William H. O’Connell of Belmont. His funeral was held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Monday, Feb. 28, at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford at 10 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visiting hours were Sunday, from 4 to 7 PM. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. US Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. O’Connell was employed as a Manufacturer’s Representative in the Stationary Industry. For many years, he was the President and Co-owner of Sentry Office Supply, Inc. of Woburn.
