Mrs. Essie Mae Phillips Norman, age 87, widow of the late Moir Clayton Norman, of East Bend, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Woltz Hospice Home. She was born in Surry County on July 12, 1923 to the late William Idle and Addie Lou Cain Phillips. Mrs. Norman was a Homemaker and was a member of Siloam Baptist Church. Mrs. Norman is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Denise Norman and fiancé Joey Snow of Toast, NC and Daphne and Randy Venable of Ararat, NC; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gail and Diane Norman of East Bend and Dennis and Patsy Norman of East Bend; five grandchildren, Tonya (Andy) Hawks, Tony (Stephanie) Venable, Pam (Ronnie) Stanley, Jeff (Kandice) Norman, Brandy GinkaCapella; five great-grandchildren, Garrett Norman, Cameron Stanley, Hannah Stanley D.J. and Arizona Ginkapella; seven brothers and sister-in-laws, Rev. Troy and Lillian Phillips, James Phillips, Sanford Phillips, Ebbie Phillips, all of Pilot Mountain, Paul and Glenda Phillips of Beulah, NC, Grover Phillips of Cana, VA and Lonnie and Shirley Phillips of Yadkinville, NC.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy and Billy Lawrence of Louisiana and Eloise Wall of Clemmons; one sister-in-law, Eloise Phillips Easter. Mrs. Norman was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two sons, Gray Norman and Gary Norman; one brother, Harvey Phillips. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Siloam Baptist Church at 3:00 P.M with the Rev. Bill Faw, Rev. Jim Dockery and Rev. Stewart Mauck officiating with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 6-8 PM at Cox-Needham Funeral Home.
