Obituary

Viola E. Joyce, 90, peacefully passed away on Friday, January 9 at Worcester Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

Viola was born in Lexington to Theodore and Lillian (Bickford) Carmichael. She was an anesthetist at Worcester Memorial Hospital for 40years and maintained an active RN license all her life. She also maintained close ties to her Native American community, attending pow-wows and tribal events whenever she could.

She leaves behind her brother Roger G. Carmichael, daughter Dr. Sally L. Joyce, granddaughters Claudia Austin, Gayle Casper, Barbara Kenworthy and Hannah Adams, grandson Keith D. Cross, nieces Melissa (Carmichael) Montecalvo and Lydia (Carmichael) Small, and many other cherished nieces, nephews, their families and other close family and friends. Viola is predeceased by her husband Glover C. Joyce (1997) and her brother Jerome W. Carmichael (1986).

Funeral services will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. on Tuesday, January 13, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel on Monday, January 12 from 6-9 PM.
