Obituary

George P. Witzel, 76, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Worcester, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Hazel D. (Spuehler) Witzel.

Born in New York City, February 19, 1935, a son of the late George M. and Margaret L. (Beck) Witzel, he was raised and educated in New York, and lived there for most of his life until moving to Franklin in 2000.

He was the retired owner and operator of the family business Witzel Brothers Screw Machine Co. in New York.

He was a 1953 graduate of Harrison High School in New York, and also attended Lafayette College in Easton, PA. He was an Army ROTC graduate, with the rank of 2nd Lt. He was unable to serve in the active military due to an unfortunate injury.

He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed spending his time with family.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 54 years are 3 daughters: Linda G. Dougherty an her husband Charles of Feura Bush, NY, Dawn J. Witzel and her husband Peter Lakin of St. Davids, PA, and Candee R. Conyers and her husband William of Franklin, a brother John P. Witzel of Delaware, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ralph J. and Sarah Spuehler of Wolfeboro, NH, and 5 grandchildren: Dyrin, Devon, William, Heather and Jenny.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Friday, February 25, at 12 noon in the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage Street, www.oterifuneralhome.com. Interment is private. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00AM to 12 noon.
