Obituary

WESTPORT…David B. Manahan, 52, of Westport died Thursday, January 8, 2004 at home after a courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side. He was the husband of Cathy J. (Blaine) Manahan.

Born in Orange, New Jersey he was the son of Patricia R. (Cass) Manahan of Morristown, NJ and David V. Manahan also of Morristown, NJ. He has been a resident of Westport, MA since 1998. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Westport and a member of the Westport Point United Methodist Church.

He was employed by Alden Court Nursing Care & Rehabilitative Center as a Health Care Administrator. He had formerly been employed by the Cushman Management Corporation of Methuen, MA at Bon Secour Hospital as an Administrator and at C.A. Dean Hospital in Greenville, ME as an Administrator. At a young age in life Mr. Manahan’s passion was to work in the health care profession.

He was a Pawtucket Red Sox fan who had coached and managed Little League Baseball teams from Maine to New Jersey since he was 15 years old, most recently in the Town of Fairhaven, MA. He was a member of the Fairhaven Rotary where he had held positions of Secretary and Treasurer. Mr. Manahan was a master mason with the Columbia Doric Lodge of Greenville, ME and a mason of the Abraham H. Howland, Jr. Lodge of New Bedford, MA. Mr. Manahan who was a cigar aficionado enjoyed collecting railroad pocket watches and all types of coins with the year of 1951 on them.

Survivors in addition to his wife and parents include 1 son: David C. Manahan of Westport; 1 sister: Denise E. Bruster of Centreville, VA; 4 brothers: Paul G. Manahan of Elkview, WV, Kevin C. Manahan of Morris Plains, NJ, George B. Manahan of South Charleston, WV and Jerome F. Manahan of Somerville, NJ; several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be celebrated on Monday, January 12, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church, Main St., Fairhaven.

Interment service will be private.

Memorial Visiting Hours will be Sunday 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the POTTER FUNERAL HOME, 81 Reed Rd., Westport, MA 02790.

In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 619 Purchase St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
