Obituary

Werner Heinrich Kappeler, 80, died February 22, 2011 from complications of a pulmonary embolism.

Werner, the son of Raphael and Johanna Kappeler, was born on Feb. 5, 1931 in Tubingen, Germany. He immigrated to the U.S. in May of 1953 and in February 1954 he was drafted into the 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. In Brooklyn, N.Y. 1956 Werner married Marianne, his loving wife of 54 years. In 1957, Werner began his career with the Brooklyn branch of the Chas. Pfizer Company, retiring as a scientist from the Groton branch after 36 years of service.

Werner was a 32-year member of the German Cultural Society and a Stewart and lifetime member of the Mystic Rod and Gun Club. He was kind, generous man and will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

Along with his wife Marianne, Werner is survived by his identical twin brother Klaus of Haigerloch, Germany, his 3 children; Trudy, Roy and Cindy; his 4 granchildren, 1 great granddaughter and many friends and family here in the U.S.A. and in Germany.

A Funeral Service with full military honors will be held at the Middletown Veteran Cemetery Chapel, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown on Wednesday, March 2nd at 1pm. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boy's Town of America, (www.boystown.org), one of Werner's favorite charities.
